I keep getting ora err 00313 when adding members to the redo logfile.

My MAXLOGMEMBER is 4
My MAXLOGFILES is 16

I've got 2 groups with 1 member each. If I add a member, it creates a logmember, but gives an INVALID status.

The file is there on the disk !!

Can anyone help?

The new log member is still not used and labelled INVALID ... THUS NOT PROPERLY INTIALIZED.
if you do a startup/shutdown at this stage u will get 
the above mentioned error.
I beleive this is not fatal.
A possible workaround is to force a logwitch( one or
many )so that the new member is USED and INITIALIZED.

I had to switch the logfile twice. Now it seems to be working. The INVALID status is gone.
