What is the difference between locally managed tablespaces and dictionary managed tablespaces?
How do they work in oracle 9i?

Locally managed tbsps store the nessessary information about blocks and extents within an array in the tbsps itself, thus reducing the overhead when creating dictionary objects.

Dict mngd tbsps store all extent information in the dictionary tables in the SYSTEM tbsps.

Oracle recommends using locally mngd tbsps an all tbsps except SYSTEM.

In 9i Release 2 you can even use locally mngd tbs for the system tbs.
So I guess that sooner or later dict mngd tbs will disapear
